As the COVID-19-19 pandemic unfolded in 2020,  DeKalb County, Georgia’s 4th most populous county, counted on the director who had been there for 15 years. When that director resigned to take a related position in the White House, a major leadership gap loomed. DeKalb averted crisis because Dr. Sandra Valenciano 20F, an unusually qualified young doctor, was already working for them, trained and placed by the Emory University School of Medicine Preventive Medicine Residency and Fellowship Program. Her promotion and story show how preventive medicine saves lives and costs.

Emory's Physician Assistant Program has a long, proud history of being one of the top-ranked programs in the country by U.S. News and World Report.
